2011 Scottish Pharmacy Awards
The categories where Mhairi was successful were Business Development sponsored by Activis and Innovation in Service and Training sponsored by AAH Pharmaceuticals.
The two awards received in November were the ‘Scottish Pharmacy Awards 2011’ which took place at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow. There were three finalists in each category which were announced in the Scottish Chemist Review.
We were a finalist in three categories and won two awards:
Business Development of the Year sponsored by AAH Pharmaceticals
Innovation in Training and Service Development sponsored by Actavis Academy
These were awarded as a result of establishing a successful travel clinic based within the Pharmacy.
Business Development: As a result of increasing enquiries for travel vaccines Mhairi felt there was a need to provide a streamlined ‘one stop’ travel health service to simplify the patient journey and to provide a high quality service to the travelling population, especially school groups.
As a result of this, and the establishment of a travel clinic service, the business profile would be raised in the local community and beyond. An increased business could be generated through provision of travel health products and private prescriptions for vaccines and anti-malarials.
Innovation in Training and Service Development: For developing additional services for the benefit of patients and the community and recognising the development and training of the role of the community pharmacist. The establishment of the travel clinic took place after further education and training undertaken by Mhairi. She completed the Diploma in Travel Medicine awarded by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow) in 2011 and as an Independent Pharmacist Prescriber this allows vaccines and anti malarials to be prescribed and administered in the travel clinic setting.
In February 2012 we were also a finalist in two categories at the Scottish Pharmacist Awards 2012. There were 4 finalists in each category and this event took place at the Scottish Pharmacist Ball and Awards at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
The award of Business Initiative sponsored by Actavis Academy was awarded to Hogarth Travel Clinic.
